Ask what refurbished means here
Find the exact model and ask the seller what inspection, cleaning and repair were performed. The word refurbished alone does not describe a universal process. Clarify known cosmetic damage and whether all essential parts are included. Photographs should show the actual condition where possible, rather than only a generic product image.
Check dimensions, connections and access to the installation location. An appliance that cannot fit the space or be connected appropriately is not a bargain. Identify whether installation needs a qualified service and obtain the relevant quote before comparing purchase prices.
Compare installed alternatives
Suppose a hypothetical refurbished appliance costs $260, delivery $40 and installation $50, making $350. A suitable new alternative costs $420 with delivery and installation included. The refurbished route is $70 cheaper under these assumptions. If removal of the old appliance costs extra under one offer, add it before deciding.
Ask what support is included and how a problem would be handled. Consider collection arrangements and any transport you would need to provide. Do not estimate a guaranteed remaining life from the description alone. An unknown repair history deserves a question, not an invented precise lifespan in the cost calculation.
Decide what uncertainty you can manage
Think about how disruptive a failure would be and what temporary alternative exists. A household with another usable appliance may view the uncertainty differently from one relying on this machine for an essential daily task. That practical consideration can justify paying more without proving that a new product never fails.
Retain the description, purchase record and stated terms. At delivery, compare the model and condition with what was agreed and follow the seller's process promptly if something differs. Keep any leftover budget available for household needs rather than spending it immediately on accessories. The saving should be measured against a suitable complete alternative, with condition and support considered alongside the price.
Ask which accessories are essential for operation and confirm they are present before arranging delivery or installation.
